He is currently a partner at Fenway, a speechwriting and strategic communications firm. In our interview, he describes what must have been a challenging job because so many constituencies want to provide feedback and suggestions in the president’s speeches. Then in 2013, he became an assistant to the President and the director of speechwriting. His next position there was special assistant to the President and deputy director of speechwriting. He began his work in the White House as a presidential speechwriter in 2009. In 2008, he worked in the Obama presidential campaign. Then he got a master’s in public policy from Harvard University’s John F. After graduation, he worked as an unpaid intern in Ted Kennedy’s office. He has a degree in political science from Northwestern University. Cody Keenan was President Barack Obama’s director of speechwriting from 2013 to 2016.
